How to apply for a Portugal Permanent Residence ?

Whether one needs a visa for Portugal depends on his/her nationality and purpose of stay. Residents of non-EU/EFTA countries will need a valid passport (valid for at least six months) plus a Portuguese visa if required. On entry, Portuguese immigration authorities may check that you have sufficient finances for the duration of your stay or a return ticket.

On reaching Portugal our associates will help you to get the Resident Permit in Portugal. Initial Resident Permit will be granted for one year which gets renewed for two years. After staying and working in Portugal for 5 years you can apply for a permanent residence visa and after one more year, you can get citizenship/passport of Portugal. However, in order to be eligible for citizenship after 6 years, you must pass a language test or can join any institute and complete 300 hours classes.

The application for a Portugal permanent residence permit must be submitted to SEF – Portugal’s border agency. Under the Foreigners’ Law, applicant needs to fulfill the given criteria to be eligible to apply for permanent residency:

  • Applicant must hold a temporary residence permit for at least 5 years
  • During the last 5 years the individual has not been convicted of a crime punishable by a prison sentence of more than 1 year
  • Applicant must hold Sufficient subsistence/financial means and accommodation
